Cyprus Digital Nomad Visa

Cyprus, like Portugal, attracts primarily because of its climate and living conditions. For example, in 2019, Cyprus was ranked 27th in the Economist Intelligence Unit’s quality of life ranking.

In addition, digital nomads are provided with very favorable tax conditions. If you are not a tax resident of another country, you can become one in Cyprus within 60 days. Tax benefits will also be available to you—dividends, interest accruals, and untaxed income if it is less than €1,500 per year.

Criteria for a Digital nomad visa in Cyprus

The digital nomad visa in Cyprus is issued for one year and can be renewed annually for up to three years. The list of criteria to be met is very transparent and straightforward:

  • You must be a citizen of a country that is not in the EU/Eurozone. Automatically—freelancers from Ukraine pass this parameter (while we are not in the EU yet).
  • You need to prove your ability to work remotely.
  • Your employer/client must not be registered in Cyprus, and you cannot be a shareholder or director of a company established in Cyprus.
  • Neither you nor your family members can work in Cyprus for a local company. The only option is to work remotely for a foreign company 🙂
  • You have to open a bank account in a local bank and deposit EUR 8000 for each adult family member and EUR 4000 for each child under the age of 18 years.
  • You must prove a stable income (minimum of EUR 3500 per month after tax deduction) from foreign sources.
  • If you are traveling with family, the minimum income requirements are increased by 20% for your partner and 15% for each child under 18 years old:

Example: Your after-tax income is EUR 4,500 + 20% for your wife/husband + 15% for a child under 18 = EUR 5,175.

Documents for the digital nomad visa in Cyprus

  • Valid passport (it should not expire earlier than three months after the visa’s expiration).
  • Two notarized photographs.
  • Contracts confirming remote work.
  • Bank statement to prove income.
  • Medical insurance for at least EUR 30,000 which can cover out-patient or in-patient treatment and even transportation of the remains to the home country in the case of death in the Republic of Cyprus.
  • Certificate of no criminal record for you and your family members if they travel with you.
  • Contract of rent or purchase of housing in Cyprus.
  • CV.
  • A declaration that neither you nor your family members intend to provide services to clients registered in Cyprus.
  • A letter explaining why you want a Digital Nomad Visa in Cyprus.

You will also need to fill out an application form on the website of any Cypriot consulate in your country and pay a consular fee of EUR 70. You will wait for 2 to 3 months for an answer, but you may get it sooner, depending on the consulate.
